Follies, Flattening of the world. You make excellent points! Tom Friedman, "The World in Flat" made similar points as you have made. It would appear to me that with the skill sets required of jobs, increase automation and fewer students obtaining the basics required we are in deep sh_t. Then, we will have to insource more and more immigrants with green cards to perform the skilled jobs and outsource many of the low skill jobs used in manufacturing. This is not a pleasant thought for we grandparents as we consider the future of our kids and grandkids. With your prediction it will not be to long until we will have extended families living together.
