Gus, I know your father was an important guy for you. I'm glad you could be there with him through the end.

You're right to focus on your mom. Statistics show that when one spouse in a long-standing marriage dies, the other often also dies within the year. When my wife's dad died, my wife threw herself into making sure her mom stayed involved and connected. She went on to live another 26 years.

How's Junior dealing with the loss of his grandpa?

. Now my siblings and I need to focus on mom, get her past the rough spots and rally her through this!

you bet, good friend....

your mom needs the support of her family, yet you may be surprised how strong she will be....she lost her husband of many many years, but i'm sure she did not want to see him suffering, so like you, she realizes he is in a better place....still....there is that emotional 'hole' that cannot be filled....except for the love and support of her children and good friends...

you are a good son....

my father was diagnosed with lung cancer, and i 'took care' of him the last 6 months of his life....it was hard to watch him fade away, but he died sitting at his kitchen table, reading the morning newspaper....the EMS guys said they had never seen a more peaceful passing...just living his daily life, laid down his head on the table and he was gone...

so yes....a good death? such a thing exists....when i went to the house (my mother called me first in a panic) and i saw him....i realized he was indeed in a better place and the memory seared in my mind was the many times i saw him alive in that same spot, either reading or watching his beloved hockey games....he was 'home'

thank you so much for letting everyone know how things went with his passing and know that your 'online' friends are always here....until we aren't <gg> you get my drift....none of us are getting any younger!

ps...

love the music choice for the funeral retrospective of your dad and all who loved him
