All I got was that it might be available tomorrow. I would not hold your breath though. I downloaded NetMagnet from the ftp address I posted yesturday and it crashed my system. A friend of mine had the same experience.

Changing the symbol of the company the day before the biggest technology show of the year was not the brightest idea.

Quick Start to NetMagnet
peak-media.com

FIRST TIME

The first time you run NetMagnet, its intelligent caching system will be getting to know you. You can speed up this process by visiting your favorite sites during this first session. Then, in later sessions, NetMagnet will "look-ahead" in advance to which sites you might want refreshed, and you'll then notice dramatic speed improvements over your previous browsing experiences.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

1.486 PC 66 or better, Pentium strongly recommended
2.Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0
1.Minimum of 16 MB RAM, 32 MB recommended
2.Minimum of 6 MB free hard disk space for install; up to 20 MB available, depending on cache "look-ahead" settings
3.Internet Service Provider (ISP) and a 28.8K or faster modem.
4.Netscape Navigator 3.0+ or Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0+

[NOTE! At release time for NM10PR.exe, NetMagnet will only operate with Netscape Navigator v 3.0+ to v 4.01, and with MS Explorer v 3.0+ to v 4.0. NetMagnet may not operate correctly with Explorer 4.0+ or Communicator 4.02+, and will not run correctly with Explorer 4.03.] (See AutoUpdater)

INSTALLATION

1.After downloading the NetMagnet file, close down all other applications.
2.Go to Windows Explorer and double click on the file you downloaded.
3.Follow the instructions on your monitor, or as noted below:

a) Welcome Screen: Press Next if you have closed all other applications. Otherwise, exit, close all applications and restart your installation.
b) License Agreement: Read the agreement and press Accept to continue.
c) Select Destination: We recommend that you use the default directory (the program will create a directory named NetMagnet) to install NetMagnet in.
d) Quick Start Options: This will add NetMagnet to your Start Menu and add a shortcut icon to your desktop. For your convenience, we recommend doing both.
e) Select Start Menu Group: This default will place NetMagnet in a PeakSoft folder, unless you choose to place it elsewhere.
f) Install: The installer now unzips the NetMagnet files into the folders you have chosen, then reboots your computer so that the changes go into effect.

STARTUP INSTRUCTIONS

1.Connect to your ISP with your TCP or other log-on program.

2.Double click on the NetMagnet icon on your desktop. (You don't have to launch NetScape Navigator or MS Explorer before starting NetMagnet.) Your Web browser will then start automatically.

3.NetMagnet will now load your browser and run in the background. When you finish your browsing session, exit NetMagnet first, NetMagnet will then close down your browser automatically.

[NOTE! At release time for NM10PR.exe, closing down your browser before closing NetMagnet will "hang" NetMagnet. An annoyance only, rebooting solves this fix. Also, because NetMagnet uses a Java virtual server, network proxy preferences that are automatically installed at run-time will not be uninstalled. To launch your browser again without NetMagnet will require you to manually remove "localhost 128" as the HTTP proxy in the browser "Network Preferences, Proxies..." index.]

AUTO UPDATER

NetMagnet checks back with PeakSoft's website on a regular basis and updates itself so that you always have the most current version of NetMagnet. It will ask you for permission before it updates itself. Simply click on the yes or the no button. We recommend you click yes periodically on AutoUpdate.

PERFORMANCE TIPS

1.NetMagnet will optimize browser settings for you.

2.To customize NetMagnet click on Configure, which is the button with a picture of tools. A window will appear which allows you to configure the cache, look-ahead threads, freshening threads, and network settings.

3.Look-ahead threads are used to load in the pages that NetMagnet anticipates you will need next. The default settings (2) are optimized for most users; minimum thread setting is 1 and maximum is 9. Unless you have specific needs, we suggest you use the default settings.

4.Freshener threads are used to keep the pages that are already in your cache up to date. Again, we suggest using the default unless you have special needs. The minimum setting is 1, maximum is 9 and default is 2.

5.The NetMagnet program requires 6 MB of hard disk space for a full installation. The cache which NetMagnet uses will require an additional 20 MB of free hard disk space. This can be modified if your system has extra disk space. For a discussion of cache and how it works, refer to our Cache Sizes page.

UNINSTALL
1.Double Click on the icon My Computer.
2.Double Click on the Control Panel icon.
3.Double Click on Add/Remove Program.
4.Select PeakJet from the list of software.
5.Click on the Add/Remove button.
6.Follow the instructions.

TROUBLE SHOOTING

If PeakJet will not install: Try closing down all of the other applications running on your system. Too many active programs uses up memory and will sometimes cause installation to fail.

If PeakJet has installed, but it will not run: Close all of the other applications on your system and reboot your computer. If PeakJet still will not run, try installing a second time, and reboot the system after installation.
