From a friend at another site: a very good friend of mine spent the majority of his life in the military until a couple years ago. He wanted to make a career of it.However he was sent from Iraq to Afghanistan and soon began to question everything upto and including why are we here.(Afghanistan)Approx. 6-8 months in he was given a "promotion" to an elite company that does "special" missions.Shortly after this i stopped hearing from him as well as did his family.I found out why when he got home and out of prison.....yes I said prison!!!!!! The last assignment he was given was in the poppy fields.They were instructed to PROTECT the fields and harvesters AT ALL COSTS. He went to his C.O. and questioned him about it because he didn't understand why they were protecting the fields when they should have been burning them!!!!! He was instantly demoted and sent to prison(after court martial proceedings of course) for disobeying a direct command from a superior officer, when he refused to do so.He spent about 6 months in the brigg awaiting conviction then to be brought home to serve the rest of his remaining sentence. Strange thing happened....the charges were dropped and he was sent to what he called "death alley". Within a couple of weeks in middle of a fire fight his leg was "accidentally" blown off by a .50 cal by friendly fire!!!!! More to the point by the time he got home he was already strung out on oxy's cuz the darvocets and vicodins didn't work anymore. Shortly after coming home He was cut off with out warning or even trying to ween him off of the drugs so needless to say he went basically straight to the street dealer to get his meds.(while fighting in court to get his benefits reinstated) and unfortunately he never saw that..... 11 weeks ago he was found dead in his bedroom with a needle in his arm and bunch of oxy's smashed on the nightstand. It is important that people understand that this was the kind of guy that didn't drink or even smoke cigarettes or anything the whole time we were growing up just to die a hopeless junkie. SO THE ANSWER TO :WHY ARE WE EVEN IN AFGHANISTAN? well I can answer that in 2 words OPIUM AND LITHIUM Most people don't realize that 2 months prior to the invasion that there was a vein of lithium found there that was estimated worth 100's of BILLIONS of dollars.
