I certainly would not want to try to trade on the basis of that. The lows have seemed to precede major political and structural upheavals. But it is a good indicator of events that force the hands of politicians to make changes to the system.

No doubt we are in store to see major changes in the future. Riots in the Western world due to lack of jobs and high cost of food staples have now started to rear their heads. Homeless shelters in the US are stretched as well and now youth is getting more and more violent as they see little in the way of a future. Without a healthy stock market, however, the problem would be much worse. If they let the market go, this place will be like a post Armageddon movie in quick order. So I would expect they will do everything they can to keep the market in reasonable shape. Even if it means printing money into infinity.
