We had a curious experience - an October 2008 dinner party we hosted for friends from an assignment overseas long ago turned into a Fox News polemic session about Obama and McCain, when one guest who had never railed like that before just went off. After that, we heard nothing from that couple for a long time until my wife ran into the grouch's wife. They invited us to a dinner soon afterward, and hardly a word was spoken about partisan politics the entire night. I gathered that the grouch had switched off Fox and come to realize how rotten most politicians in DC are on both sides of the aisle.

Anyway, it was nice to know that one episode hadn't undermined our ties with a couple we have known nearly 20 years now.
