Re: "Ronald Reagan, Yes he saved Social Security." He cut a deal that restored adequate funding to SS to keep it's books showing a positive balance for about 35 to 40 years... (but, as you know, it needs another 'fix' right about now). However his administration was also the first one to start indulging in fairly significant amounts of "smoke and mirrors" budget accounting tricks by using the temporary Social Security surpluses to help DISGUISE the true extent of the chronic ongoing deficits in the federal government's general budget so the public would not be so aware of the extent of the budget problems.... (Deficits which spiked hugely higher, especially in his second term.)
