<<NEWS: Analysts forecast plunge in 3Com Asian revenue>>
This is old news. When the plunge in Coms took place($40 to $30)
the Asian revenue shortfall was indentified as one of contributing factors. More than one article stated that 15% of Coms revenues were Asian generated and 1/3 of those were "at risk", or 5% of total revenues. This article:
siliconinvestor.com
repeats the same information (only about 2 weeks too late!).

Open Interest Question. Please help.

What does Open Interest actually mean?
People say if there is a seller, then there must be a buyer.
If Fred bought 5 contract at 2 3/4 and Joe sold 5 contract at 2 1/2(spread), what this trade will contribute to the open interest?

If Fred bought 5 contract from MM(I don't know if this is possible), does this trade make any difference in term of the open interest?

Can anybody help me out? thanks in advance.

P.S. I tried this question in Option Trade thread, but no luck.
