William. Like most people I have seen a lot of downsizing in the last 5 -7 years. Many of these people, after coming to terms with the reality that there are few jobs out there that pay their former rate, are forced out of desperation, to take their 'package' and\or life savings, and dump it all into a new business\franchise, in order to try and provide some cash flow. Most of these people have never run a business in their lives. Result - bankrupcy. This is the disease of the 90's. Your friend is probably right.
