I would hope Obama has better things to do than lurk on SI. I hope so too. Finally we agree on something. <g> Nevertheless, SI is a reflection of the real world. We've got left and right wingnuts, moderates and fanatics, geniuses and idiots. What gets written here is read by others and is just one part of a collective consensus that finds it's way into major publications, and, eventually the news digests that Obama's political advisers read. Many posters who would never dream of writing a letter to the editor will express themselves here, making these forums unique. I think it may depend on your world view. If you live in Kansas, which is where the owners of SI reside......it may reflect the real world but it doesn't reflect my world all that much. Don't think so? A decade ago a Wall Street Journal reporter lurking on SI contacted me via SI PM. That led to a phone interview and me being quoted in a Wall Street Journal article about online trading. Don't discount the power of any media. Okay. Its not completely removed from the mainstream......I too have been contacted by a media rep.......although one much smaller than the WSJ. However, I think the crowd here skews older......and I think their idea of what a president should be is fairly different from what younger voters think a president should be. I find a lot of machismo concern on these threads vis a vis Obama......a need for Obama to be more more authoritative.....more parental. My friends in their 30s are not looking for that kind of president. And that's true for me too. I had one father........I don't need another. Finally, I agree with you... Obama is the best alternative to what the other side is proposing. I just wish he could find it within himself to be a great President instead of just average. I happen to think that Obama is a great president. However, I don't think either one of us is in a position to make that judgement. I think it's history that will have to decide. IMO we're too close to the forest.
