Not being in that field I guess that's why I never heard of them. Not too long ago the mega-builders, those who would build Hoover Dams and make the deserts bloom, were heroes. Only recently have we come to realize that screwing too much with mother nature isn't wise.

That's why some dams are getting torn down.........esp ones that do little good. Up here, those dams that impede the return of the salmon are getting torn down. But each community has to weigh out the benefits and the losses before a dam can be pulled.

Re. the Hoover Dam, what's been done to the CO borders on criminal. The water is getting saltier and the flow much weaker......the flow into Baja CA is down to a trickle. Part of the problem is that much of the West, including Texas, has experienced less and less rain over the last three decades. Many scientists think its a permanent trend. It doesn't bode well for the water needs of millions of people.
