Exactly. I had the same reaction I had when everybody was so upset by that kid who got caned years ago. Remember that? I forget the country, but he went down there and disrespected their laws and screamed bloody murder when he had to suffer the consequences.

probably fancied themselves as struggling bloggers or journalists who wanted to make a name for themselves by writing about their excellent adventures into truth, justice, and the iranian ways. well they have become famous in a reversal of their fortunes.

The story always sounded suspicious.

They were accused of being spies when they were first arrested. The young lady in the group was freed, but who knows why.

Sneaking into a country is never a good idea, even if you're trying to pad your resume with gonzo journalism. Iran should have been at the bottom of their list. Their college degrees should have provided them with the tools on how to do some research. Had they employed even a modicum of effort, they might have discovered that Iran executes people every day for the slimmest of reasons.

Ever try to enter any country without a visa or the proper papers? It's usually a big deal, no matter what the country is.

There are Americans in prisons in Venezuela and Columbia for illegal port entry, because they neglected to hire an agent to process their papers. A lot of these people are blue water sailors who thought they could save some money and bypass the process. I had personal experience with this.

Iran's prisons are nasty. I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear that they committed suicide, with a bullet.
