In every case it was the liberals who pointed out the problems from racism, New Deal to stupid wars and environmental damage. Again, I agree with you on what are the important issues but those are not the issues that motivate many conservatives. From their perspective, they are not the important issues. For the good conservative, fiscal sanity is key.......nothing wrong with that. For the good conservative, preserving American values is important.......nothing wrong with that. For the good conservative, defending the homeland is critical.........again, an important issue. 2) You tell me how we impress on people that minds must be developed without saying it. I work with people who have every ability to educate their kids yet do not impress on them the importance. The kids get married right after high school and that is it. They find me grating too! Look. I am a teacher. I know the importance of education. However, a formal education is not for everyone. I've mentioned before that I student taught at a lower middle income hi school where most of the parents were blue collar. During the semester, I mentioned a couple of times to the kids that they should be thinking about college. Most of them looked at me like I was talking a foreign language. One kid.......one of the smartest kids........even challenged me one day and said he saw no reason why he should have to go to college. This kid had been a pain in my ass the entire semester. He would give me dirty looks every time he could. However, whenever I challenged him to do better, he did.....going far beyond what I had asked. In fact, he did whatever I asked. Hey......for me, that's a win win, As I said, he was a smart kid.....but at the end of the day, maybe college was not for him. He clearly hated school. And lets not forget........Bill Gates dropped out of college and it never hurt him.
