The officer told me that the U.S. was unlikely to reach its goals in Afghanistan.

My stepbrother got back from Afghan yesterday.
He expressed similar but in Infantry Sergeant Major lingo.

Thank God he did not leave shot up and on a stretcher this time.

That should be his last combat tour. He plans to retire in 1-2 years.

I asked the officer if the military conducted intelligence operations in the United States. The officer said no, but that there were plenty of domestic agencies that do and that intelligence collection was very important.

I spent a day on the FBI range in Charlotte a couple of years ago. As I recall the FBI's NC Chief Intel agent told us they coordinate with 37 other intelligence collection efforts in CONUS.

That means there are at least 38 govt agencies collecting Intel in the US.
