<The current stock market rout already discounts a recession > I do not know where stocks are headed -- but I am unable to see how you could call a few days of up and down action a "rout" that has priced in a couple of really, really bad economic years if indeed this plays out as many now expect. The US with an official unemployment rate at 15% -- if that is where it goes -- in a context of Asian slowdown and European meltdown is going to really be something none of us has ever seen and potentially far worse that the last little dip we had a couple of years ago. As I say, I am unsure about all of this, but I would not dismiss it lightly.
