Yeah, this is the unending argument. Can the federal government stimulate demand by paying people not to work, etc. And of course, the obvious answer is "No", but the Left constantly argues otherwise.

Demand is stimulated most importantly by a resurgence of consumer confidence and the way you get that is by having a Ronald Reagan or something as president, one who the public believes can provider leadership. We don't have that now and that's why it is important.

But aside from that, all that can be done is to provide tax incentives for business that will result in hiring. The idea is that when the cash moves through government hands, it loses a substantial portion of its stimulative value, just as happened with the Obama stimulus that was a total waste.

If they had used that trillion to do highly targeted tax policy stimulus, we would quite possibly be well into a recovery today because real jobs would have been created.
