That's because only gasoline engines can be converted. Diesel engines use no spark plugs, and use very high compression ratios to heat the oil fuel and ignite it. CNG just will not work in a diesel engine, so, you'd have to give them NEW engines. Which changes the entire inode proposal, doesn't it?

The LNG vs. CNG debate rages on. Clean Energy Fuels is involved in both.

It costs about 15k to convert a diesel engine to run on CNG. It is true CNG requires more storage space than LNG, but that isn't a huge problem with large trucks as there is plenty of room for tanks.

CHK has just arranged to fund CLNE to build refueling stations making it possible to drive coast to coast (I would guess along I40) on CNG. Without taxpayer dollars.

It is such a no-brainer for truckers there is no reason at all to have government funding these conversions, other than through tax credits which are much more cost-effective than just forking over money to do it.

CLNE builds refueling stations for local fleets as well as for public use. Becoming more common of late, these stations are being constructed for localities but also sell to the public.
