Any thoughts on what is best to do--------be in house, out of house etc.??? Not our usual on East coast

Looking at the footage of how people reacted to the earthquake, they pretty much did the wrong thing.
Rule #1 is that you never run during an earthquake.
Rule #2 is that you don't go outside into the street where there are tall buildings. You are far better off inside.

for the most part, you are better off staying right where you are. If you are standing, go ahead and sit down.

Stay away from doorways (swinging doors cause injuries)
Stay away from windows.
Don't get under heavy furniture. Heavy furniture moves during earthquakes and can injure you as well.
Sitting next to an open wall is generally a good idea.

Panic is a bad thing.
