Bosco,
You should know that Greenspan's philosophical background is heavily into "objectivism", the school of thought created by Ayn Rand. So he is more in the Goldwater-inspired camp than You might think. There are some minor glitches within the pro market camp: Supply-siders, monetarists, Libertarians, Objectivists, pro market Keynesians, rational expectation worshippers, neoclassic relicts etc. Today, everybody got his own "ideology" with respect to markets, so it's actually ecclecticism that rules. Not bad actually, picking out all those candy's that are on the table.

Sorry to hear about Your portfolio's performance. Seems to be that DD shockwaves had another bad effect. I unloaded WDC luckily weeks ago. Now I'm convinced it was right - You know, you never know before.

Regarding SE Asia, I think (and herby sharing Kudlow's view) that they created that problem, they got to solve it. Market will reward those countries that adjust more quickly to a complete free-market policy with nice monety inflows. Japan is on the brink of becoming serious. Indonesia & Singapure are next, HongKong & Thailand will take a ditch longer, Korea is hardest hit but will eventually adjust. Just Malaysia is getting my personal "award" of stubbornness. The PM cried "foul" compared financial markets & currency speculators with middle-age black knights. Well, the markets' message (as it appears to me) to all those regional leaders is: don't ignore our goals & agenda. Transition is painful. Personally I would strongly suggest to get into Japanese equities on any signs of weakness. Even INDEX CAlls are good now, I expect a slight retracement on the Nikkei though.

Actually I see it (from a bigger point of view) as the first wave of "assault" of free market forces at this "coporatist economies" or "cronie capitalism" as Kudlow termed it. The net effect is that US should profit from that by reigning in inflation AND and improved balance with regard to terms of trade.

best wishes
CROSSY
