HIG. Yes, I wonder too how insurance companies are going to pay out on their annuities when government bond rates are so low. They will have to stretch and/or be diversified in the assets they hold (which I assume they are), and maybe not be so dependent on their annuity business.

HIG: Take the $9.5B out of assets, so the bv becomes $21-$9.5 = $11.5B. That's still $25.8/sh vs. share price about $17. Still a favorable p/bk in my view for a small bet.

Re HIG@ 19.1$. I bought some shares at th close today, betting on an earnings report that may be better than expected. Based on their press release, they beat "operating earning" estimates. Lot's of special charges but book value is now up at 47$/share. At 19$ currently, I don't pay too much for this mixed bag.
