Darrell: Interesting. I checked it out. 1.0 Zacks, 4 strong buys, no holds or sells. Reminds me a bit of AMTX. I might take a small position (500 shares or less) and see how it goes. There is a small thread on SI for it.

Darrell -

Re: Orckit/Rockwell announcement.

Yes, this is very interesting. I've been looking forward to ADSL and HDSL and a few other Digital Subscriber Line services which have been discussed in the networking trade press.

A two-wire system that delivers T1 speeds has a better chance of actually being implemented someday than one requiring four wires.

In case you weren't aware of it, ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) is very interesting to, and also requires only two wires. It offers up to 6MB throughput for downloads, and a slower speed (33.6, I think) for uploads, which would work well for most web surfers.

The problem with any of the DSL systems is getting the phone companies to support a standard and invest in the required infrastructure.

RE ORCKIT
Darrel, Gary you might want to take a look at Option International. It starts trading at the Easdaq around Dec 3rd. Option produces modemcards for portable computers. Option is part of Intel's Mobile Data Initiative; it's products are delivered to ibm cpq hwp motorola 3com bosch.
Two products are soon to come up : the Snap On Modem (for Palmpilot) and the Firstfone (combination of gsm and modem in one ).
Revenues (in Belgian franks): 95 = 94M
96= 286M
97E = 550M
PE (E) : 97 = 17
98 = 7
Signed in @10$, hoping to have found another IOM.

tom
