BREAKING..BlackBerry phones 'to run Android apps'
BlackBerry-maker Research in Motion looks increasingly likely to offer Android compatibility on its forthcoming phones.

The move would address criticism that BlackBerry does not have enough applications by allowing the devices to run those built for Google’s rival Android operating system. It would also lessen RIM’s struggle to persuade developers to write apps specifically for BlackBerry.

Reports from Bloomberg suggest that suggestions in February may still prove true. Originally, it was reported that RIM was working internally on a project to make its Playbook tablet compatible with Google’s 250,000 apps; this was later confirmed by RIM CEO Mike Lazaridis. At the Mobile World Congress show earlier this year, software maker Myriad was also demonstrating its Alien Dalvik software, which can make Android apps run on other platforms. Now the new capability is also set to launch with BlackBerry’s forthcoming mobile phones, based on new operating system QNX, due in early 2012.

App ShopSavvy said on its blog in February that according to its “logs someone in Waterloo, Ontario (where RIM is based) has been running ShopSavvy for Android on various BlackBerry devices”.

According to the firm, the 8300, 8600 and 8520 were recorded running ShopSavvy this year. They added that “This makes sense since BlackBerry OS can support Java Virtual Machines and it would be pretty easy to compile Android in one of the them. This is a pretty interesting development – we would love to optimize ShopSavvy for the new BlackBerry+Android”.

While RIM has said that its QNX-based PlayBook tablet will run Android apps, it hasn’t confirmed that QNX phones will have the same capability.

Bloomberg’s sources said that the long-awaited upgrade to add native email to the Playbook will come next month, but the upgrade for the Android element was likely to take longer.

Superphone Nexus Prime to have dual band wifi on top of NFC, blazing 1.5GHz dual core TI OMAP4, and 1280x720p AMOLED display
Samsung Nexus Prime Receives WiFi Certification by Chris Chavez on August 26th, 2011 at 3:06 am

The Samsung GT-I9250 which has a 99.9% chance of turning out to be the upcoming Nexus Prime has just passed its WiFi certification today. Right on schedule with that leaked Samsung roadmap, the eve of the Nexus Prime is almost upon us. In case you needed a refresher, this device will be the premier Google device running the latest version of Android Ice Cream Sandwich. The device will have a 1280×720 HD screen so bright, so vivid, it will be like looking into the face of Andy Rubin himself. Word is Google has made nice with Texas Instruments so you can expect the latest OMAP4 processor they have to offer. No word yet on a carrier but I’ve heard from some people, that know some people, that rob people — it could be Verizon.

Sony Ericsson Prepping For Global Release of New Flagship 720p Nozomi Handset [Rumor]
Sony Ericsson Prepping For Global Release of New Flagship 720p Nozomi Handset [Rumor]
by Chris Chavez on August 25th, 2011 at 8:04 pm

Sony Ericsson may still have a few surprises up their sleeves with the upcoming release of a new flagship phone code named “Nozomi.” being rumored to launch in Japan later this year. According to a tipster over at XperiaBlog, the device is rumored to launch by years end in Japan under the model number SO-02D on Docomo’s network. In the latest rumor, the phone will also be released globally with the model numbers LT26i/LT26a.

The phone’s rumored specs include a 4.3-inch 1280×720 HD display (the new standard in rumored devices), 1.4GHz Snapdragon single-core processor, 1GB of RAM and support for a Micro SIM card. I’ve always been a big fan of Sony Ericsson and their devices and if they can bump that single-core processor up a few more cores, I think I would be sold. What do you guys think?
