Don
Thanks for the link to great info. 30% higher means that 8020 will be sold between
$110K and $130K. IMHO, KLIC probably incorporated many standard
items(hardwares, controller, etc) at low cost and they probably increased the gross
margin to 60%+ from <40%. Thus, I expect KLIC to beat the $0.63 in Q2(March
98) quarter if Flip Chip Technology does not suck up more profit. IMHO, they should
just give up FCT and punt. It will be long before that venture will turn any profit.
Commodity Flip chip is still far away and the commodity bump service is not needed at
this time. They should just license the technology to TSMC(many Fabless semi's Fab)
and Amkor(new fab) and close the shop. It also stated that KLIC is STILL gaining
market share. This translate into 55%+ market share at the expense of Esec,Shinkawa,
and Kaijo. I would not be surprised if KLIC commands 60%+ market share by
end of next Semicon(July 98). KLIC could blow away 1998 if $ weaken against Yen
and Won(Korean currency).
