FWIW

Dear Dr. Reitz: yes, you are correct; the jury is still out on Irene. The pressure continues to rise with the latest observation, yet the NHC is still not bringing down the winds from 100 mph to 95 mph. See, there is a lot of politics in meteorology even: above 96 mph is a CAT 2; a 95 mph storm is a high-end CAT 1. The difference is also psychological: 3-digits down to 2-digits, the ole' department store trick. But the NHC only adjust storms by increments of 5 mph. With all the data I am looking at, this is a 95 mph storm; we'll of course see the verdict at 5 am and beyond. If anyone certainly does the research and connects the dots, I say this with all professionalism, that there certainly seems to be increasing hype, and more "necessity" so it seems to have a population "controlled" by a potential crisis. Best regards, Simon Atkins.
