EKS, sorry - I had to run and eat some ribs between this post and the last :-) , but here's a link to the AMAT conf call where early on they talk about somewhat bullish outlook for the solar business

AMAT. Haven't listened to conf. My opinion is different from yours though. Solar was down this quarter in reading their quarterly . I believe they may have outlooked better -- outlooked improvement -- going forward. Solar only a relatively small portion of AMAT's business.

My interpretation of what's happening is this: China gov't is forcing Chinese companies to produce solar "stuff" in excess of what demand currently is. Which means no company can compete and make a profit. Which maybe (?) means demand for AMAT solar equipment will not improve unless demand somehow improves enough to catch "excess" supply.

It's one of the reasons though that I gave up on AMAT now. (Even though solar is that small portion of AMAT's business.)

I acknowledge I may be totally wrong on what's happening as regards China/solar/AMAT.
