There was no way to know that Charley would turn like that.

I remember your loss from that time MP. It was shocking to read then and is still painful to read.

You can't dismiss these events as hype, even if the media gets breathless in their coverage. The storms are real and they are unpredictable, and humans are frail. The ones you think are nothing can be catastrophic and the ones you think are killers can be nothing.

We'll see what Irene does, but I'm not going to lose my respect for hurricanes. And I'll never trust the experts about landfall or strength. Nobody knows what a particular storm will do, always best to be on your guard.
