Anatta.......................
In Buddhism, anatta ( Pali) or anatman ( Sanskrit: ????????) refers to the notion of "not-self."

In the early texts, the Buddha commonly uses the word in the context of teaching that all things perceived by the senses (including the mental sense) are not really "I" or "mine," and for this reason one should not cling to them.

In the same vein, the Pali suttas (and parallel agamas, both referred to collectively below as the nikayas), categorize the phenomena experienced by a being into five groups (" khandhas") that serve as the objects of clinging, and the basis for a sense of self. In the Nikayas, the Buddha repeatedly emphasizes not only that the five khandhas of living being "not-self," that is, not "I" or "mine," but that clinging to them as if they were "what I am," or were "mine," gives rise to unhappiness.

According to the early texts,

while on the path,

one should develop oneself in healthy and liberating ways,

only letting go of the attempt to improve the self.....

as it..... Becomes unnecessary

“The whole secret of existence is to have no fear. Never fear what will become of you, depend on no one. Only the moment you reject all help are you freed. “

Degrees of uncertainty are a constant in human experience.

Certainty involves more awareness and less computational proof. You could say for example, "I am aware, therefore I am, I am therefore my experience is, my experience is therefore the universe is, etc etc etc" and have no problem with the certainty of that statement. It is a credible statement resembling a scientific statement but unjustifiable in the laboratory.

Remove the bark from a tree and what do you have?

You have wood, that’s what you have. Wood is useful for many things but to call it a liberated tree or to call it a tree independent of its bark would be using those terms in a corrupt fashion. At some point wood is no longer a part of the forest and can not even be termed a tree. You can't say it is the fault of the wood for being useful or that it is not of the tree's nature. Wood is used according to those who have a purpose for it. When you remove decency, moral principle, and personal honor from a human being, you get a person who is able to do many things which a person bound in a moral code of decency could not be used for. A useful human being with no bark is not free. The biggest difference between human beings and other creatures is, human beings make a choice about whether to be used or not. Personally I think it is a waste for human beings to shed their bark and allow them selves to be used.
