And it is the property owner's duty to make sure the rate of taxation remains as small as possible.

This is why vacation lake property is taxed at such a high rate here. The owners usually don't vote in the taxing jurisdictions.

This is why mostly rich people have lake cabins here now whereas 40 years ago it was a thoroughly middle class phenomenon. A middle class person can afford to buy one but they just can't afford the property taxes.
