A mining claim is an asset and a liability. Every jurisdiction requires you do work or pay cash on a yearly basis to keep it in good standing. If the claim lapses you may try and restake it but then you are in competition with others. I am a reluctant claim staker. To be successful you need to be continually assaying rocks, writing reports and filing assessment.
