<<<<<The Department of Homeland Security should be broken up into its component parts. US Secret Service, US Coast Guard and Customs & Border Protection are left intact (but not under DHS). FEMA functions are greatly reduced and otherwise delegated back to the states. TSA functions are limited to defining standards. Actual personnel would be paid for by the airlines and/or local governments. That looks like a savings of about $5B out of a total budget of $55B >>>>>

Soooo, the big new government created by Bush the best you can do is whack 5 billion? Looks to me your intention is just to turn stuff back to the States - which doesn't necessarily reduce cost or an individuals tax burden at all.Frankly the idea of turning TSA back to the States so that different states might run the program differently is rather silly. .......In the old days the States were enclaves of themselves - not today. We are so interconnected as to give State boundaries a different meaning.

Hey I don't have the time nor anywhere close to the desire to go through your numbers. What is your total saving? I say hand your figures to Perry and see what he thinks!

Thanks for doing all that work, even if we can't do much about it....Question though: I heard someplace in the last couple of months, that if we cut Spending back to the 2007 Budget and no increases....I wonder if that would work?....

en.wikipedia.org

Seems to me it would be simple enough to do....even though some of the folks would still be squaking about the 'cuts'.....
