Pot brownies give B.C. office workers buzz
CBC News Posted: Sep 2, 2011 11:31 AM ET
Police say three office workers in Victoria, B.C., became ill after accidentally eating pot brownies. Carlos Osorio/Associated PressThree office workers in Victoria, B.C., were taken to hospital after unwittingly sampling home-made brownies made with marijuana on their break.

An investigation by police and office staff eventually led to the office refrigerator — and a tray of home-baked brownies found inside.

The investigation revealed an employee had been cleaning out her freezer at home and found a previously undiscovered stash of brownies, which she brought to work for her colleagues to enjoy.

But the woman didn't know her son had concocted the chocolate treats with cannabis a year ago, slipped them into the bottom of the freezer — and promptly forgot about them.

The employees were taken to hospital on Monday with similar symptoms — numbness in their limbs, light-headedness and disorientation.

Doctors confirmed all three patients had consumed marijuana and were suffering from the typical effects of pot ingestion.

Police say no charges will be laid because there was no criminal intent on the part of the woman's son. Instead, he will be placed in a restorative justice program.

All three office workers were kept in hospital for observation and later released.
