I don't know if they have similar laws in Europe, but if they do that would explain why they have shrinking populations... LOL. But, jokes aside, this is plain insane. Those California politicians need to be put in straightjackets, heavily sedated and locked up.

Instead of Yelling, I'll put my Inside'Lady-like Polite' Voice on, and say to the "babysitting/government fiasco in CA"

This shows all of us just exactly why ANYTHING to do with the Government is just totally out of hand and costs 25 times as much as it should.....

Under AB 889, household “employers” (aka “parents”) who hire a babysitter on a Friday night will be legally obligated to pay at least minimum wage to any sitter over the age of 18 (unless it is a family member), provide a substitute caregiver every two hours to cover rest and meal breaks, in addition to workers' compensation coverage, overtime pay, and a meticulously calculated timecard/paycheck.

As Victor Davis Hanson has often noted in his journals, if you keep passing laws this stupid and this onerous, people just start to ignore them. He says California is full of little businesses that just pop up by the roadside, esp. to serve the poor, who can't begin to afford the compliance costs of this stuff anyway. So the rich pay, the poor ignore it, and the middle class becomes first impoverished then moves out of state.
