I believe if you research that you will find the gas tank would only ignite under very contrived and constructed instances. There was a huge scam involved by a "news" outlet performing "investigative" journalism.

When rear ended the gas tank would sometimes rupture and ignite.

Whether or not the Pinto was a rolling crematorium was not my main point......competition leading to less disdain for the consumer was more to the point....that and arguing against more governmental involvement in my buying decisions.

Now and then I drive a V-10 Ford when I need it.......It's not my "let's go to beach" vehicle and I don't have the nerve to try to figure out the gas mileage......but I also do not want it to be up to the government or limo liberals to say if I can own it.
