No, the house with no running water was the best home I ever lived in.

About the genetic lottery, I think very few people are so intrinsically retarded they can't succeed at something. Most people can better themselves in America. It's why people still come here. But you need to do the right things, work, scrimp, save, sacrifice, keep your nose clean, live right. And you don't have to get rich to be a success.

So, while it's very comfortable to blame that bottom of society for their own troubles

"blame the bottom of society for their own troubles" There is so much I could say about that.

First, we need to admit lot of people ARE to blame for their own troubles ... or their families troubles. People do make bad decisions in life ... some people one bad one right after another. And they and their families will pay for it. It's the way the world is. If 1/3 of lottery winners become bankrupt, it tells you there's a big percentage of people who just don't have the values needed to succeed:

Nearly one-third of lottery winners become bankrupt.

“The CFP Board made an offer to the National Association of State and
Provincial Lotteries to provide the organization's members with
information to distribute to winners. The Investment News article
highlighted the lack of financial guidance many winners receive from
state lottery agencies; estimates show that nearly one-third of
lottery winners become bankrupt.”

Problem with the above comment is they blame lottery winners bankruptcy on the state lottery agency not supplying financial guidance. I don't think it would matter.

Second, let's go back to that bottom of society thing. There is always going to be a bottom of society and the bottom 10-15% are so are always going to be considered poor ... even if they have internet access and can gripe about the capitalistic system online like MsMaxy74:

There's a whole lot more I could say but I'll cut it off with this.

OK, one more thing ... if we want to provide more jobs and better pay for low-skilled Americans, there's one big thing we can do. Prevent 12M low-skilled people from third world countries from entering the country illegally and taking jobs American low-skilled people would get.
