Free trade is the idealistic liberal idea. Based on the idea that being good to others will result in good being returned. free trade hasn't been done since trade agreements came into vogue. what is the logic behind your claim that free trade doesn't work? Free trade will never work as you suggest. This is the real world just because we do not lay tariff's on other countries does not mean they will do the same. i know what it is, you don't. FREE TRADE DOES NOT NEED AGREEMENTS. it doesn't matter what they call it, if they have to negotiate rules, it's 'fair' trade, not free trade. Only in fairy tales. Try sticking your money and credit cards on your back and walk though a large city high crime area. If you only lose you credit cards and money, and not your life you will be lucky. This is what those who advocate free trade would have us do. it would be better off if they eliminated the income tax, tariffs and all other taxes and replaced them all with a national sales tax. BS national sales tax would be as bad as income tax, it is the same thing an excuse to tax everyone. Tax's should be more limited than that. We should have the tariff's, some excise tax for the LEGAL control of commerce, sin tax, and a few others. If you want limited government you don't let them tax everything, which is what both a national sales tax and income tax does.
