I think there's enough demand to create millions of new jobs suitable for low-skilled workers ... it's just that illegal aliens hold them now. If we could get illegals substantially out of the labor market, would there still be some unemployment ... probably, but it wouldn't be the problem it is now.

August 2011 - unemployment rates and number of unemployed:

no high school diploma 14.3% 1,663 million

high school grad 9.6% 3,501 million

some college 8.2% 3,038 million

bachelor's degree 4.3% 2,005 million

How many illegal aliens are there in the US? Most sources say about 12 million. Not all of those are in the workforce, but most probably are.
