yes, but what trinket did you / would you buy for your girlfriend here in hk whenever we go to the shop to buy some little thing for the wife, mom, daughter for some occasion, the sales folks invariably ask, in somewhat attention-getting lowered voice, "is there something you would like to get for ANYONE else?" and should one respond something like, "oh, yeah, my mother-in-law's birthday is coming up" or, "oh, yeah, my aunt will be visiting", one is shown something substantially more visually appealing than whatever one just bought for the closest and dearest kin. wonder why?
