Barbara: I'll let you know what I use and hope it helps. First on candlesticks, the best source is "Japanese Candlestick Charting Techniques" by Steve Nison, known for his expertise and contribution to making candlesticks (used in Japan to trade commodoities for centuries) available in the west; requires, I found, study, not just reading. Very very good stuff. Also good, but lighter is "Candlepower" by Gregory Morris (who has a business and web site with John Murphy called MurphyMorris.com).

On stochastics, there's lots of sources. I started with "The Handbook of Technical Analysis", edited by Darrell Jobman. John Murphy's book "The Visual Investor" is also ok, but it is very light/superficial (I found).

I use charting software which makes the pictures for you. The books help me interpret the messages there. There are also many web sites that will give you both candlesticks and stochastics, as well as many (maybe too many) others.

Regards,
TomLF
