the level of damage done to the black psyche from slavery and then decades of discrimination runs much deeper than we think and that they as a race will take longer to heal. Crack and prison-industrial-complex-written-laws killed many bright and intelligent minds..it's just one piece but its effects fanned out, tragically We've seen what happens to any family where drugs and alcohol predominate.......imagine the impact of generation upon generation of drug and/or alcohol abuse. But its not even that......imagine what its like to grow up in a society where the way you look is not what's considered the idolized form of beauty. Only recently did I learn what black women have to go thru to have straight hair. I don't know the details but apparently the process is fairly painful. Now go to 2:30 on this video and note the hair of the young black cheerleaders. Enough said.
