Well said. The rhetoric around "socialized medicine" is a very effective tool for getting many people to vote against their own interests. The drag on the US economy of excessive health care costs and mediocre results along with the significant number of people who stay in jobs they hate for the medical insurance (25% or so) is a largely unreported or discussed factor in our declining competitiveness. Combined with the brain drain from science, engineering and technology toward finance it's quite a mess we're in. Getting out and moving forward is a great challenge full of peril but even greater opportunity. Polls, pols and pundits only exacerbate the problems and cloud the opportunities.
