chuck butler of ever bank, author of daily pfennig, made a very interesting point.

will the snb continue to support the chf at 1.20 euros if th german constitutional court declares the eurozone bailouts illegal? although there will be appeals, etc., the immediate effect of such a ruling will be to tank the euro. will the swiss keep buying euros under those circumstances to keep the chf below 1.20?

given the snb's actions (ceding the safe haven trade to gold and usd), it seems that an adverse ruling might send gold up over $100 for the first time.

i wouldn't bet on an adverse ruling even though it seems that the legal and economic arguments are very strong. such a ruling would create havoc in the markets. my guess is they rule against the plaintiff on a procedural technicality. iow, they play obama-ball (kick can down road).
