What could be done to avert a recession?

As an aside - let me give you an example of what may be typical in the mortgage business. My wife and I are refinancing to get a lower rate - and since we paid a lot of additional cash - a much lower monthly obligation.

Well - when the loan officer asked about income - it all got interesting. What is my income - "as needed" I said. Well that did not work. Well I said we have SS and a small annuity pension - trust me - that does not get a loan. So, the full rectal has begun. I have not even dared to bring up the answer of "selling covered calls" as I doubt very much the loan officer knows what a call option is.

Then there were the simple basic questions. My wife and I are sitting there and we were both asked if we were male or female. We were both asked if we were the full racial spectrum - I should have said purple. The process is ridiculous.
