I share your concerns re: the speech...no matter my criticisms, I really want him to succeed....big time...as you do too.....the content and tenor of the speeches in MI this w/e made me excited that perhaps he's finally gotten it...

I suppose we can hope for the best and prepare to be disappointed....

We have to also remember that his job is on the line---this kind of problem is a good steroid for most people...also, last night it occurred to me that he's got the burden(and luck) of being the first black president......I can bet lots of $$$ that he's given time to thinking about what his failing will do---not only for his ego but also current and future generations of black or brown candidates....

Can't even begin to really know why he's behaved in such a disappointing manner so far...but for all we know, Jonathan Chait, tejek, pal and others are right and Obama has had the long view and we liberals have been unrealistic re: what he can accomplish in his first term against racist Rs who'd prefer to see a bullet go thru his head than for this country's fortunes to improve right now....

"I think he will go oatmeal and say, 'It was their policy and they won't let me.'"

I wish to apologize to President Obama. It took me 3 years to figure out that the oatmeal is actually poi.
Sorry about that.
