"normally", people who lend money to those who cannot pay back will soon go broke... But this time was different. The government was buying up debt, taking much of the risk out of lending. And of course, once the crash came, so did the bailouts. Ultimately, the only lesson learned was that it pays to be aggressive and corrupt.
