Well t - shutting down refineries? More good jobs down the drain? I would see it as a short sighted reaction to recession or - in the case of Sunoco - I see it as a simple business decision to restructure their business. I would assume refining is not very profitable these days. A chart of VLO however does not look any worse than many others.

Is reduced gasoline consumption a function of recession or technology?

Ultimately, do we need any more refining capacity than domestic oil production. I wonder where the specialty blends will ever come from?
