I have no problem with government loaning money to cutting edge startups. Heaven knows that private companies are probably better equipped to achieve breakthroughs than actual government agencies. What I'm puzzled about in the case of Solyndra is how the debts got restructured in February that subordinated the government funding to the initial funding from private investors (The George Kaiser Family Foundation). Actually I'm not surprised at all anymore by these types of shenanigans.

initial funding was Private venture capital from 2005 forward. the big $500M govt guarantee did not come until obama was sworn-in in 2009.
