i know the issue, but it is semantics only. ponzi's scheme of take lates/pay earlies was concealed fraud, and that makes it illegal (i am not a lawyer, and i could be wrong about legal matters.). social security $$ inputs and $$ outputs for workers and retirees (and other recipients congress has stuffed into the fdr program), is an open pyramid scheme that everyone can know about and understand given just a few moments of time and thought. if a person cannot figure it out, the ss admin and other govt/biz/etc. people will gladly explain it to the challenged.

rick perry next time needs to apologize profusely and say ss is a government pyramid $$ input/output scheme that is legal, because us law states it is legal. if the pyramid scheme runs out of younger workers to pay into ss for a much larger pool of retirees, etc., then higher ss taxes (fica, etc.) and other fixes/monies will be necessary to keep the ss system solvent. a ponzi scheme needs to have concealed fraud, and thus ss is not a ponzi scheme.

i suppose it would be cute to say the simple difference between a ponzi scheme and social security is no fraud is involved with social security unless one chooses willing ignorance.

My main problem with the the tea party nuts is that I agree with too much of what they say.

Tom, the Tea Party is not against SS and Medicare. They may want huge cuts in federal expenditures but they also want their entitlements.

Take a look at the faces in the crowd at a Tea Party rally. This is not exactly upscale America.

They look like people that are going to need their SS and especially Medicare.

If 47% of Americans pay no federal tax, I would bet that approx 47% of Tea Party supporters pay no federal tax.

All these people who want to slash government are not very specific about where the cuts should occur but they do know one thing....it can't cost them a dime.

The only problem with calling SS a Ponzi scheme is Ponzi schemes are voluntary. SS isn't.
