I reread my message on blue laser diodes and I'd like to clarify two things.

First I said that a "pilot isn't going anywhere". What I meant is that the cockpit affords a practical place to mount the light source and that it doesn't need to be directly attached to the helmet. So, what I should have said is that in relation to the cockpit a pilot isn't going anywhere.

Second I said that blue laser diodes were a necessary condition for truly portable color VRD. That is not entirely true. Color VRD could also employ blue, light emitting diodes (LED's), albeit with some operational compromises. LED's do not provide light as bright as laser diodes.
