Charlie Tuna, No need to get personal Charlie, it only makes it look like you have run out of rational arguements. I agree that if the average mfg cost is $25-$35 than some manufacturers would be settling for an asp of ~$50. But you have presented no arguement for these numbers, nor have you presented any means by which anyone but Intel will have the capacity to meet the growing needs of a world hungry for computers. Where will they get the capacity to turn the CPU business into a jellybean business like the drams? Especially on the razor thin margins they are enjoying today. How will they build the multi billion $ fabs needed to compete? Will AMD build more fabs? With what money? Who is going to lend them more? Would you? You think the need for more CPU power has passed, in the short term I would agree, however in the next year or so the Internet will open up with much greater bandwidth. Home entertainment will demand much more CPU power. All the ISP's will need many more servers to feed the hungry households. Where are the AMD and Cyrix servers? Name 1 please. Businesses will move to Intel based servers because of the extremely favorable price performance ratio. If you read the Intel news posts on yahoo you will notice that hardly a day goes by without another 4-8way SMP Intel based server breaking yet another price/performance barrier. Where are the AMD or Cyrix servers? Simple, there aren't any. None, zilch, nada. Why do you suppose that is? Ever wonder? Over the next several years Intel based servers will make their way into the highend server business. Deschutes based SMP systems will crowd out DEC and SUN with their superior price/performance and Merced will signal the start of the end of the big iron mainframes. Today, all you can see is that you can't figure out what to do with your home PC. Don't worry, someone will come up with a reason.... EP PS if you are going to call yourself Charlie Tuna then at least you must know where that name came from.
