It is eminently right that goofy pronouncements of people like James Hansen be used to taint the warmist crowd? He IS a very key player in climate circles, heading one of the key institutions promoting CAGW.

Here's the problem, Brumar, I have with posts like this and some of your other ones on the "warming" subject. You appear to be hunting for examples of egregious conduct on the part of some those in the "warming" crowd (and I admit it is there to be found) and using it to taint all the "warming" crowd--both scientists and politicians.

That is indeed the question - is Brumar hunting "examples of egregious conduct on the part of some those in the "warming" crowd," or is he simply finding plentiful, normal examples? I submit it's the latter. Furthermore, I submit, that unless there existed a norm of such extravagant claims, there is no way the conventional wisdom on global warming could ever be anywhere near where it is now, given the weakness and uncertainty of the supporting evidence.

Why not search for references on global warming in your local paper, and see what you find? That would give you some idea of what the normative thinking on the subject is. See how often Hansen is quoted, and by whom.
